WHAT TO STREAM: “THE WELL,” A DARING DRAMA ABOUT A RACE RIOT IN A SMALL TOWN. Oscar nominations, as history has shown, are hardly a guarantee of a movie’s merits—but, more surprisingly, they don’t guarantee prominence, either. That’s why I was surprised to learn that a low-budget drama, “The Well,” from 1951, an independent production with no stars, was nominated for two of them.
